To entice better sleep, it helps to immerse yourself in sleep ideas and literature. Here is a list of books, podcasts and videos. To keep it simple, I will add to it gradually. Please check back from time to time, and feel free to Contact Me with your own ideas.

Books

Many books and other resources warn of the dangers posed by lack of sleep. To balance this, it is good to stay tuned for positive tips, such as those I offer in my blogs, which focus on resolving issues and creating conditions for better sleep.

Walker, Matthew, Why We Sleep: The New Science of Sleep and Dreams (London, 2017, Penguin)

An incredibly friendly, readable and engaging introduction to sleep. The author is friendly and personable, a guide you cannot help but enjoy.

Here, a concise list of tips  for getting good sleep, as quoted in Matthew Walker’s book.

Wiseman, Richard, Nightschool: Wake up to the power of sleep (London, 2014, Pan MacMillan)

Another engaging overview of science, with exercises and tips combined. Looks at the ‘lark or owl’ types (‘chonotypes’), and discusses what makes a ‘super sleeper’.

Morley, Charlie, Wake Up to Sleep: 5 Powerful Practices to Transform Stress and Trauma for Peaceful Sleep and Mindful Dreams (London, Hay House, 2021)

A Buddhist author who is expert on lucid dreaming, and an excellent teacher live and in print.

Foster, Russell G and Lockley, Steven W. Sleep: A Very Short Introduction (Oxford, 2012, OUP UK)

As it says! Short and sweet.

Horne, Jim, Sleepfaring: A Journey Through the Science of Sleep  (Oxford, 2007, OUP)

I found this denser, but again, very useful. It includes impassioned plea, backed up by extraordinary statistics, against driving when sleepy.
